How to Use the SensEpil 65k

The Silk’n Hair Removal Systems have been designed to be extremely user friendly and easy to use.  However, it is recommended that users read through the included User’s Manual (or Instructional DVD) prior to using the device. Note: Do not use the SensEpil XL 65k with a fresh suntan, or after recent sun exposure.  This may result in adverse side effects.  This is not unique to the SensEpil XL, however.  This advice should be followed for all light-based hair removal devices. 1)      Shave the area that is to be treated, and ensure that it is both clean and dry. 2)      Plug one end of the power cord into the base unit of the SensEpil XL, and the other end into a nearby electrical outlet. 3)      Press the Power button on the unit’s base to turn the device on.  The Power On light will glow. 4)      When the device comes on, the lowest energy setting is automatically utilized first.  Note: When the first use of the SensEpil XL 65k is being performed, the device is programmed to deliver a set number of pulses at the lowest energy level.  This helps ensure user safety and skin tolerance. 5)      Set the energy level to one of the five energy settings available.  The SensEpil XL provides users with the most effective results when the highest energy settings are utilized.  However, this may also increase the risk of side effects to users.  Use the + or – on the base of the unit to adjust the energy setting of the SensEpil. 6)      When the Ready Indicator light glows, treatment can begin. 7)      Apply the treatment wand in successive rows on the skin.  Place the tip of the applicator on the skin with the treatment window facing the skin directly.  Note: If the treatment window is not in direct contact with the skin, a pulse of light will not be emitted. 8)      Place the Pulse button located on the end of the treatment wand.  Move progressively downward when the ready indicator light glows, and repeat the process until the area has been fully covered. 9)      The time between pulses tends to be around 3.5 seconds.  During this time, try to ensure that pulses are not overlapped or stacked upon one another.  This increases the user’s likelihood of experiencing adverse side effects. 10)   Continue to check the skin during and after the treatment for any negative effects, such as blisters or burns.  If this occurs, stop using the SensEpil XL immediately. 11)   To turn device off, press the Power button to return to Standby mode.  Unplug the device’s power cord, and store the unit in its original box. top of page

Duration of Treatment

With the combination of a short time between light pulses, and a very large treatment window, the Silk’n SesnEpil XL 65k helps deliver one of the fastest treatment times available on the market today.  It has a treatment window of 6 cm2, one of the largest available in a home hair removal system. A standard treatment protocol of the SensEpil XL hair removal system involves treating the skin every two weeks for the first three or four sessions.  After that, maintenance sessions can be employed whenever stray hairs begin to grow back.  Typically, users will begin to see noticeable results after four treatments.  Substantial results are seen by most users after six treatments. top of page

Who Can Use SensEpil XL 65k

The Silk’n SensEpil 65k has been designed for both women and men.  However, as with other similar light-based hair removal systems, the SensEpil is not for everyone.  Those with naturally dark skin tones are not good candidates for using the device.  Additionally, those with light body hairs, including white, gray, or blond hairs, will remain untreated by the SensEpil.  For those who may be curious if their skin tone will work with the Silk’n SensEpil XL, a skin tone chart has been included below. Parts of the Body That Can Be Treated

The SensEpil XL has been designed to safely and effectively remove unwanted body hair from most of the body, including the legs, arms, forearms, underarms, feet, chest, back, and bikini area.  However, reviews show that there are some issues that should not be treated with the device.  Parts of the body that should not be treated include: face, head, ears, eyes, eyebrows, sideburns, or intimate areas. top of page

Safety Features of the SesnEpil 65k

This FDA cleared device has been designed not only to be very easy to use, but has also been engineered to be as safe as possible.  The device’s built-in skin tone sensor automatically determines if skin is too dark to be treated safely.  If the sensor deems the skin too dark, a pulse of light will not be emitted. Another feature included with the SensEpil XL 65k hair removal system that is designed to enhance the safety of the user is a sensor that ensures that a pulse of light will not be emitted if the treatment window is not firmly pressed against the user’s skin.  This helps protect the eyes of the user, as well as those around them. top of page

Side Effects of the Silk’n SensEpil XL 65k

Because of its numerous safety features and combined energy technology, the SensEpil XL 65k rarely results in negative side effects when used properly.  The combined energy of the devices utilizes acoustic energy in combination with light energy to help the device deliver exceptional hair removal while utilizing lower energy levels of light.  To help prevent further unwanted side effects from occurring, users should attempt to limit sun exposure four weeks before and two weeks after a treatment session with the SensEpil XL 65k, and use a high SPF sunscreen during the course of treatment. The side effects of the SensEpil XL, however, are many of the same side effects that are to be expected when using any other light-based hair removal system.  During treatment, users are expected to feel a slight warming sensation and tingling in the area being treated.  Many users have reported a slight snapping sensation as the pulse of light is administered.   This, however, tends to be relatively painless for most users.  After a treatment, some reddening of the skin is common, and should resolve quickly. top of page

Replacement Parts

Because of its innovative technology, the SensEpil XL 65k is one of the few at home hair removal systems that do not utilize replacement lamp cartridges.  As the name alludes to, this device can provide users with up to 65,000 pulses of light.  This is enough pulses of light to ensure a complete treatment of one’s self, as well as his or her significant other. top of page

Technology of the SensEpil XL 65k

Silk’n’s SensEpil XL 65k Hair Removal System utilizes a combined energy-based hair removal technology that is designed to allow users to get the same high quality hair removal results that are provided in a clinical setting, but using lower energy levels.  Using acoustic technology in combination with intense pulsed light technology, the SensEpil’s Home Pulsed Light (HPL) technology allows users to get professional quality results while utilizing lower energy settings, in the privacy and comfort of their own home. The SensEpil works by causing a process called selective photothermolysis, a process by which light energy from the SensEpil XL heats the shaft of the hair, causing its growth to disable.  Although the light targets the melanin pigment found in the shaft of the hair, the ski is left completely unaffected by the treatment.  This rapid heating of the hair causes the growth of the hair shut off, and it will eventually fall out, and it will not be replaced. Most light-based hair removal systems work by targeting hairs in the body that are actively in their growth phase.  All hairs go through three phases of growth: The Anagen Phase, the Catagen Phase, and the Telogen Phase.  Hairs that are in the Anagen Phase of growth are the only hairs that are effected by treatment with the SensEpil and other similar hair removal systems.  This is the reason why all light-based hair removal products require extended periods of treatment.  Each individual hair will remain out of the Anagen Phase for up to eighteen to 24 months.
